10 Different Ways To Ride A Segway!. This is going to be a break-down of the ten diverse, sometimes obvious, and invariably fun ways in which you can ride nano-scooters (aka Segways, self-balancing scooters, hoverboards).
Before we begin, bear in mind that the trick to riding Segways rests in both feet, specifically below the ankles. You merely tilt your foot forward or back, together or apart, and you can control where and how your Segway moves.
Way To Ride #1 – Forward
By tilting or leaning your feet (you are stood upright on the device, by the way), you can get the Segway to move ahead. Based on how much pressure you place on the hoverboard’s footpads, that is how fast it will go; best to take things slow, for safety’s sake.
Way To Ride #2 – Backward
The heels of your feet help with moving the Segway in the backward direction. Remember we said we would mention the obvious too? Tilt or lean your foot backwards while still facing ahead and the nano-scooter does as commanded.
Way To Ride #3 – The Old Man
This is purely for fun. Grab one of those wheeled crutches that old people often use (do not grab one while the old person in question is still using it). Move your hoverboard forward while clutching the crutch to make it seem like you are an old man or woman hoverboarding. Needless to mention keep the unwheeled struts on the crutch off the ground or they will certainly scrape against it and make you lose momentum.
If you are an actual senior citizen, this idea comes as a means to help you feel young on a fancy machine like a nano-scooter.
Way To Ride #3.5 – The Beginner
This idea is dedicated to bona fide beginners who have no idea how to even get atop a Segway let alone balance and ride one. Stand with one foot on the Segway (do not press down yet) with you free hand holding a post or support to help you climb onto the device. After that, it is a matter of practice to get your bearings and go.
Way To Ride #4 – The Bodyboarder
If you have been to one of those water-themed parks, you will remember how you lay flat on your stomach and held a board that helped you slide down chutes and other rides. Imitate that position only press down with your folded arms on the Segway and your body will be tugged forward. Do it on smooth or soft ground; duh.
Way To Ride #5 – The ‘IDK’
Fully called ‘I Don’t Know’ this is a silly-willy move where you sit on one side of the Segway while toggling the footpad on the other. Your legs need to be folded as you see fit during this attempt. The device will pivot where it stands, and make you go dizzy and feel silly; do it in an open area lest you hit your head on something. If someone asks you what on earth you are doing, you can honestly say ‘i don’t know’.
Way To Ride #6 – Tea With Pooh Bear
In keeping with the classic tradition of Winnie the Pooh, the bear who still captures the hearts of kiddies everywhere, sit as he does only you have a hoverboard and not a tree stump. Sit on the board with your legs front and out, much like Pooh bear. The device will move forward because of your hands on the pads that tilt to manoeuvre.
Way To Ride #7 – The Closet Opener
Assume the position! Ballet students are sure to find the command quite familiar. Much like ballet, you stand on the hoverboard, arms up and elbows out until you have a curved formation. Perform a pivot on the hoverboard. You will look much like a twirling closet opener. Your knees need to be slightly bent too; dizziness alert.
Way To Ride #8 – Out Of Names
Literally, we are out of names and this Segway try-out is casual enough not to warrant one. Stand on the Segway in such a way that your legs are crossed at the knees. Your feet are still on each footpad. Perform a pivoting motion on the nano-scooter. This is a fun and weird look; and as you can imagine, it does not really need a name.
Way To Ride #9 – Please Don’t Tell My Dad
We do not know why this name was given for this try-out but two people need to get on the Segway. Each has both feet on one footpad of the scooter. Work together to have it turn or pivot on the spot. Put your arms around each other for support lest you both fall off.
Way To Ride #9.5 – Frogger
Both feet on one pad of the Segway, both hands on the other, bend low until you look like a crouching frog. That is all there is to this one.
Way To Ride #10 – The Majestic Monk
Sit on the nano-scooter with legs folded like a meditating monk. The sides of your foot are on the pads; it may be tricky but it will still let you manoeuvre the device and if you happen to pretend as you are actually meditating, you will look like you are floating around, zen-like.
